Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
I've been in business since March 2008, but I have been preparing to start this business for a very long time.
What is your primary product or service?
My primary product or service is copywriting: press releases, articles, transcription, web content, business communications, as well as: editing, proofreading and formatting of already existing written materials and web content.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I've been a writer all my life. Since childhood, I got straight A's in English, which continued into college. I was a finalist in a spelling bee in fifth grade and I've been an avid reader all of my life. I spent over three years as an editorial assistant for MPG/Community Newspaper Company writing, proofreading and editing all kinds of written copy, mostly press releases and articles. When I was laid off last February as part of a company-wide employee reduction, I turned lemons into lemonade and started Write My Stuff. It's always been my dream to start my own writing business.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I am not a fly-by-night, get rich quick business. I care about my customer's needs and will listen to what they want carefully. My business code is to create quality written material in correct English composition, grammar, punctuation and spelling, and deliver it to my client in a timely manner. And, if there's time left at the end of the day, I'm going to write a novel or two.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I have one location, but with the global reach of the Internet, I can provide my services to people both locally and in distant places. I've had clients as close as Quincy and as far away as Mexico.
Provide detailed directions to your location
I'm located on Route 27, which is Pembroke Street, in Kingston. You can take Route 3A north from Plymouth and look for the Route 106 sign. Take a left turn to Main Street and bear right at Cumberland Farms and the traffic lights onto Pembroke Street. Continue a quarter mile and I'm on the right hand side three houses before the Grove Street intersection and Whit's Market/Napoli Pizza.
What type of payments do you accept?
I take cash, money orders and checks presently. I plan to accept other modes of payment in the future.
Which areas do you service?
As stated previously, I can provide my services anywhere. My written copy can be emailed, sent as a Word document or mailed via USPS. I can edit web content with the proper authentication or access FTP sites for document editing. I have a computer applications certificate, so I have acquired strong applications skills in Word, Excel, Access, Frontpage and Powerpoint.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I am the owner of my company, a sole proprietorship. I run daily operations.
What are your hours of operation?
I have no set hours. If a customer needs something right away, I'll work over the weekend or into the night to get the job done. I set my hours depending on the needs of each client and on the deadline they request for delivery of services.
